Roma are considering cutting short Evan Ferguson’s (21) season-long loan from Brighton as the young striker continues to struggle for form in Serie A.

The 21-year-old joined Roma in the summer with high expectations, but he has yet to score in 14 appearances and has found himself under growing scrutiny from head coach Gianpiero Gasperini. With four matches remaining before the January window opens, the club are now assessing whether the arrangement remains beneficial.

Speaking ahead of Roma’s Europa League meeting with Celtic, Gasperini stressed that Ferguson has been given ample opportunity to make an impact but must now show significant improvement.“There’s no dislike for the players, it’s their performances,” he said. “Ferguson has had plenty of opportunities. Do we want to wait for him? Of course. But he has to do better, not only technically but on a human level too.”

Sky Sports reports that no formal discussions have yet taken place between Roma and Brighton about terminating the loan early, though the Italian club’s stance suggests talks may be approaching.

Roma, pushing for Champions League qualification, are keen to sharpen their attacking edge in January. Ferguson’s future may depend on whether he can quickly turn his form around in the coming weeks.
