Lorenzo Pellegrini suffered a serious thigh injury right before the Atalanta game, and more tests on it suggested that only surgery would ensure a full recovery without relapses or chronic inflammation, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The midfielder will be operated on his torn rectus femoris tendon by professor Lasse Lempainen, one of the top experts in the field, on Thursday. Leonardo Spinazzola picked him too in past  Paulo Dybala, who suffered a fairly similar problem, opted for a different surgeon more recently.

Pellegrini could miss up to three months after going under the knife, which could impact his summer. He seemed destined to leave Roma. Claudio Ranieri didn’t manage to revive him, as he’s done with other players. His role and performances no longer justify his €6M wages, plus he’s under contract only until 2026.

It remains to be seen whether other teams will track considering he’ll spend the summer rehabbing. Napoli were linked to him in the past, while Inter will go in different directions.

The Giallorossi might also part ways with Bryan Cristante and Leandro Paredes in the midfield, Calciomercato reports. The former is on Como’s radar and could leave for about €10M. The veteran could head to Boca Juniors, Saudi Arabia, or the MLS since he was demoted late in the season.

It risks being quite the problem for the team, as the divorce appeared inevitable if even Ranieri couldn’t work his magic with him. The suitors will be very hesitant, and they might have to keep him risking a Bosman exit in 2026. An extension at a reduced rate would be a beau geste by the player and mend his relationship with the fan base a little.
