Roma have missed out on Giacomo Raspadori but have found their men to shore up the frontline, as they’ll acquire Robinio Vaz from Olympique Marseille and Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, Il Messaggero reports.
The Giallorossi sped up for the talent shortly after being overtaken by Atalanta for the Atletico Madrid outcast. He’s joining on a permanent deal for €22M plus €3M add-ons. The 18-year-old will earn €1.5M per year.
Robinio Vaz has already reached Italy to complete his Roma transfer, while Malen will fly in late on Wednesday. Los Colchoneros muscled their way into the race after selling Raspadori, but the capital club maintained its advantage. The formula is a €2M loan with a €22/23M conditional obligation to buy, triggered by a top-six finish. Napoli and Juventus had also been loosely attached to him.
The former Olympique Marseille prospect bagged 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 14 Ligue 1 matches this campaign and has appeared 4 times in the UEFA Champions League.
They needed to be quick, or Gian Piero Gasperini would have made his complaints known further, adding fuel to the fire in a situation that really helps nobody. While the former is an exciting starlet, it’s interesting that they are going this young when they need immediate help and have concocted a definitive formula for him rather than for other targets. It’s a safe signing long-term, given his age and upside. Missing out on the Dutchman too would have been a catastrophically bad look at this point. Considering the traits of their newcomers, the door is still open should Joshua Zirkzee become available later on.
