As reported by Alfredo Pedullà, Roma are considering making a move for Chelsea forward Alejandro Garnacho.
The 22-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge only last summer after a breakdown of relationship with Manchester United. However, the pastures haven’t exactly been greener for the Argentina international in west London, and the Blues, keen to start anew and right their recent wrongs, are also considering moving him on.
It is yet to confirmed whether Chelsea opt to sell him or loan him, but so far it is apparent that Garnacho will not be an integral part of new coach Xabi Alonso’s plans. While his £110,000-per-week wage is modest, he has a contract until 2032, which could prove difficult address for both Chelsea and Roma.
The United academy graduate finished his first season at Chelsea with eight goals and four assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.
Recent seasons make it clear that coaches across Chelsea and Mn United have been struggling to get through to Garnacho, whose talent has never been in question.
At 22, he remains a raw talent ready to become a superstar if he can just find the right environment and coach. Gian Piero Gasperini, now enjoying more authority at the Olimpico after his fallout with Claudio Ranieri last season, has been famous for working wonders with players both young and seasoned, but he just as famous for spectacular fallings-out with his wards.
So Roma have an interesting project-player on their hands, and if they got him on loan initially, the lesser would be the risk. Chelsea may also be inclined towards a loan, given there are plenty of years in his contract and a good campaign could help resuscitate his market value.
