Some lights can’t be turned off. And turning them back on at the Olimpico is now more than just an idea.
Donyell Malen and Julian Brandt lit up Dortmund’s Westfalendstadion together: Roma’s Dutchman with goals, the attacking midfielder with his assists.
Four seasons together at the highest levels, and now the concrete possibility of reuniting under the Italian capital’s skies.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Roma are seriously considering it. The latest developments at the Giallorossi are only pushing the blond German, whose contract is expiring, to Trigoria, awaiting the Champions League results.
The key figure for next season is certainly Malen. Roma will buy the Dutchman out even if the two mandatory conditions aren’t met: a Europa League finish and a 50 percent chance of playing at least 45 minutes.
That’s why Brandt was chosen. He’s a playmaker who has written the recent history of Borussia’s attacking midfield.
The attacking midfielder has decided not to renew his contract with the Germans, he would like to move to Italy and would appreciate a destination with the Giallorossi.
Juventus and Fabregas also like him, although Paz already occupies that position, while Roma are preparing to reshape their midfield for next season given Dybala’s likely departure, the difficult renewals of Pellegrini and El Shaarawy, and the now certain departure of Zaragoza.
The attacking midfielder also earns €3.5 million per season and, with bonuses, would reach the Giallorossi’s €4 million cap. This makes him a sustainable investment in compliance with Financial Fair Play.
