Sunderland’s transfer push is gathering pace, with progress on Dayann Methalie and fresh links to Ernest Poku and Simon Adingra.
Bild claims the 22-year-old is close to leaving Bayer Leverkusen and that Sunderland are trying to tempt him to the Premier League. Leverkusen are said to be open to talks at around £21.4million, with the Netherlands under-21 international under contract until 2030.
Poku, who can operate wide or centrally, registered six goals and 10 assists last season. Sunderland want another winger after Bertrand Traoré’s exit, though how advanced any move is remains unclear.
In Italy, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Leggo report that Roma have placed Adingra on a shortlist as they weigh alternatives. They add that sporting director Tony D’Amico admires the winger and views a deal as financially manageable, with Sunderland’s valuation around £30million.
Adingra is contracted at the Stadium of Light until 2030 after a six-month loan with Monaco last season. TEAMtalk has said several clubs have registered interest, but there has been no indication of a formal bid.
RMC Sport previously reported that Sunderland had agreed a five-year deal with Methalie, and L’Équipe says talks continue after Toulouse rejected an opening offer of about £17million. The Guardian has said Newcastle United decided against a bid, while Aston Villa have enquired.
That leaves Sunderland in a strong position to address a left-sided need following Dennis Cirkin’s departure. Methalie can play left-back, wing-back or on the left of central defence.
