Roma have turned their focus to Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye after dropping their move for Mason Greenwood because of the costs. The Swiss international previously impressed in Serie A with Bologna.
Gazzetta suggests Roma have shifted to wide options, with sporting director Tony D'Amico installing Ndoye as the priority after his strong World Cup with Switzerland. Greenwood is now reportedly bound for Fenerbahce.
The hierarchy viewed a Greenwood deal as too risky, with costs reaching €50 million (£43m) and lengthy timelines. After discarding alternatives such as Porto’s Pepe, Roma intensified talks for Ndoye, whose price is said to have dipped, strengthening their hand.
Ndoye is viewed as a strong fit for Gian Piero Gasperini’s current system and an ideal foil for Paulo Dybala. The club are also working on extensions for Dybala and Zeki Celik, while Lorenzo Pellegrini’s renewal needs one final meeting.
Roma start their initial pre-season programme at Trigoria on Monday. The club intend to continue talks with Ndoye’s agent over personal terms worth €3.5m plus bonuses before the window closes.
Attention is also on possible exits, with Sunderland having lodged formal interest in attacking midfielder Matias Soule.
