Roma have ordered Adidas to withdraw a tracksuit design from sale and suspended their brand officer following an outcry from fans because it had the colours of their arch-rivals Lazio.

The tracksuit top had the Roma logo on, but otherwise had very little to suggest it represented the Giallorossi.

Although the top part was in dark red, there was a white stripe and the majority of the front was a light blue colour – notably similar to the jersey of city rivals Lazio.

Fans were outraged and owners the Friedkin Group responded by ordering Adidas to remove the design from sale.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the club is also prepared to suspend or even sack Chief Commercial and Brand Officer Michael Wandell, who oversaw the project.

He is the subject of a disciplinary proceeding and could well be removed from the role.

This tracksuit was not going to be worn by the players, but rather part of their collection for fans.

Nonetheless, it has been taken out of stores and scrubbed from their websites, although the sweatpants remain in red with a yellow trim.
