Despite all the turmoil, Alessio Romagnoli is tipped to remain a Lazio player by the end of the January transfer window.
While the Biancocelesti have been extremely active on the market this month, Romagnoli’s transfer saga has been dominating the headlines in recent days. Unhappy with Claudio Lotito’s unfulfilled salary promises, the 31-year-old has been pushing for a move to Roberto Mancini’s Al-Sadd. Lazio had supposedly given him the green light, but asked him to play one last time in Lecce.

The defender saluted the travelling supporters at the end of the match, only for the management to take him off the market through an official statement. In recent hours, it has been reported that Lotito would only sell Romagnoli based on Sarri’s request, something that the head coach is unwilling to do. Amid all the chaos, the player is refusing to train at Formello.
In an interview with Radio Laziale, Italian journalist Matteo Petrucci confirmed that Romagnoli won’t take part in the action against Genoa on Friday, as he awaits developments on the market. However, the Lazio insider still expects the centre-back to linger in Rome, as he believes a move to Al-Sadd is unlikely to materialize before Saturday’s transfer deadline in Qatar.
Romagnoli won’t be available tomorrow (on Friday). The transfer window in Qatar closes on Saturday, and there is very little room to get a deal done with Al-Sadd. I’m confident that, if he ends up staying, he’ll return to the squad and play for the rest of the season.
Sarri will replace Romagnoli with young Danish centre-back Oliver Provstgaard against the Grifone, but he’ll be hoping to have his most trusted defender back at his disposal when the team travels to Turin for the big clash against Juventus the following weekend.
