According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are ‘calling and calling’ to put themselves at the front of the queue for Elliot Anderson this summer.
It comes amid growing reports that arch-rivals Manchester City are leading the race, but that hasn’t deterred INEOS from pushing hard for the Nottingham Forest star.

Yet, while United are carrying out their own respective pursuit, City are doing the same.

The departure of Pep Guardiola and impending arrival of his successor, Enzo Maresca, haven’t changed things for the Blues; they still see Anderson as their first-choice midfielder to bring in when the window opens.
Nottingham Forest have also seemingly conceded behind the scenes that the England star, hailed as ‘elite’ by Thomas Tuchel, is as good as gone, as a report from The Telegraph this week claimed that the Midlands outfit plan to use Moises Caicedo’s £115 million transfer fee as the benchmark for Anderson.
Such a price could, realistically, see United bring in two proven midfielders to bolster the position, rather than shelling out such an exorbitant fee on one.
For example, Carlos Baleba’s drop-off in form throughout 2025/2026 has presumably led to him being a more affordable acquisition.
Similarly, Mateus Fernandes suffering relegation with West Ham means he’s likely to be on the move for the second successive summer, and he’ll be well aware that United are waiting in the wings, ready to offer him a direct route back to the Premier League – not to mention the Champions League, too.
The likes of Alex Scott, Adam Wharton, Ederson and Aurelien Tchouameni are all highly regarded amongst club chiefs, albeit the latter is less feasible than the rest on the list.
