Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al-Nassr, is facing his first public flare-up involving Almería after taking a stake in the Spanish club, with the dispute centred on a past transfer from Flamengo.
On 26 February, Ronaldo announced a 25% shareholding in Almería through CR7 Sports Investments, a new subsidiary of CR7 SA.
In a strongly worded statement, Flamengo said Almería were contractually obliged to cover any Spanish taxes on the €7 million signing of winger Lázaro in summer 2022, which it says did not happen, leaving the Brazilian club to pay more than €1.5 million.
It added that a FIFA ruling issued about 590 days ago ordered reimbursement, and alleged Almería have delayed compliance, taking the sum due to €1.8 million. The club expressed confidence that the Court of Arbitration for Sport would enforce the decision and uphold the agreement between the sides.
Lázaro now plays for Saudi side Al-Najma, having left Almería in summer 2025. He is due to face Ronaldo tomorrow, Friday, when Al-Najma visit Al-Nassr at Al-Awal Park Stadium in the 27th round of the Roshen League.
