Cristiano Ronaldo was the match-winner as Portugal came from behind to beat hosts Germany 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, securing a place in the Nations League final.
Germany looked the more dangerous in the first half, with Diogo Costa called into action to stop a close-range effort from debutant Nick Woltemade, before producing an even better save to deny Leon Goretzka.
The breakthrough came shortly after the restart, with Florian Wirtz heading home to put Germany in front. Portugal were fuming over what they felt was a foul on Ruben Dias in the build-up, but the goal stood.
That setback only seemed to fire Portugal up. Substitute Francisco Conceição brought them level just past the hour mark with a brilliant solo effort, collecting the ball out wide, cutting inside and curling a lovely finish past Marc-André ter Stegen.
Moments later, Portugal struck again. Nuno Mendes surged down the left, played a slick one-two with Bruno Fernandes, and squared it perfectly for Ronaldo to tuck away the winner.
Julian Nagelsmann's side pushed for an equaliser, and came close when Karim Adeyemi rattled the post late on. But Portugal stood firm, and could’ve added a third, only for Ter Stegen to produce two stunning saves to deny Diogo Jota and Conceição in the dying moments.
Portugal now await the winners of Thursday’s semi-final between Spain and France, with the final set for Sunday.
