He made history when becoming the youngest ever to play for Blackburn Rovers this season.

At the age of 15 years, 10 months and eight days, Rory Finneran made his debut as a sub in the 5-2 FA Cup win over Cambridge in January.

He was on the bench as well for the Newcastle United FA Cup game in February at Ewood Park, however, remained an unused sub as United eventually won on penalties.

That NUFC match came just two days before Rory Finnernan turned 16 on 29 February 2024, the young exciting emerging talent having that rarest of birthdays.

The good news now is that the highly respected Conor McEvoy of Republic of Ireland player tracker, the go-to source for comprehensive coverage of Irish football/players at home and abroad, is now reporting that it is Newcastle United who have been successful with Rory Finneran.

They report that the 16 year old left-footed midfielder is understood to be set to sign any day now, with Newcastle United having beaten off competition from all over Europe for Rory Finneran.

Rory Finneran made more headlines in January, as due to his age, he was not allowed on his debut for the senior team to wear the normal kit with the main Blackburn shirt sponsor, Totally Wicked, who manufacture electronic cigarettes.
