Roy Keane believes Martin Odegaard should be producing better performances for Arsenal, both as a player and as a leader, with the Gunners struggling to win the league this season.

Odegaard has become an injury-prone player at the Emirates, which has made it difficult for Arsenal to rely on him consistently throughout much of the campaign. Despite those setbacks, the club still consider him a valuable member of the squad, and he has delivered positive displays when available, including in the recent Premier League match against Manchester City.

Injuries have limited the overall impact he can make on the side, but Odegaard has still matured into an important performer for Arsenal during the term.

Debate over Odegaard’s influence

He remains one of the players Mikel Arteta trusts most, with supporters often pleased when he is on the pitch. However, there is growing discussion over whether he should be doing more in decisive moments, particularly given his role as captain and creative leader.

Former players have now weighed in on the subject following Arsenal’s defeat against Manchester City, with questions raised about midfield balance and whether changes should have been made during the match.

Wright and Keane assess Arsenal options

Ian Wright shared his own tactical view, while Roy Keane also gave his assessment, as reported by Football365.

Wright said: “I would have put Declan in Zubimendi’s position. I would put Odegaard in where Declan is, and then I would put Eze as a 10.”

Keane observed: “I still don’t think Odegaard is enough. He’s neat and tidy and he’s good but…”

Keane’s remarks suggest he wants greater authority and influence from Odegaard, particularly in matches where Arsenal need leadership and creativity to overcome strong opposition.

Arsenal will continue to depend on the midfielder when fit, but maintaining his fitness and increasing his consistency in the biggest matches could be crucial if the club are to challenge successfully for major honours next season.
