Roy Keane says Dominic Calvert-Lewin could not have done any more for Leeds United after the striker’s 95th-minute winner against Brighton, with his England World Cup fate to be confirmed before the West Ham finale.

Calvert-Lewin latched on to Jan Paul van Hecke’s stray back-pass at Elland Road, rounded Bart Verbruggen and rolled in, taking Leeds to 47 points with one game left. It was his 14th league goal, level as the top-scoring Englishman with Morgan Gibbs-White and Ollie Watkins, and his best return since 2020/21 when he hit 16 under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton.

“What a signing he has been, Calvert-Lewin on a free. A brilliant signing who could not have done any more for Leeds.” He was speaking to Sky Sports.

Leeds finish at West Ham on Sunday, when their hosts will either already be down or still needing a result to survive. Calvert-Lewin will also await Friday’s England World Cup squad announcement, hopeful he has done enough to convince head coach Thomas Tuchel, with the back-up role to Harry Kane very much up for grabs alongside Watkins and Danny Welbeck.

“I’ve loved it [this season]. It’s been so enjoyable.” He told Match of the Day.
