Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim only offered a brief and coy statement when urged to comment on the unpleasant situation involving Marcus Rasford and the club.

The Portuguese manager stole the headlines ahead of last weekend’s derby showdown against Man City by omitting two stars players from the squad.

While Alejandro Garnacho made a quick return to the fold beginning with the midweek Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Rashford’s situation is significantly more complicated, especially with the player’s recent comments where he announced his openness for a new career challenge.

The 27-year-old now appears to be on his way out of the club. And yet, some would argue his absence was felt on Sunday afternoon, as the Red Devils were humbled by their visitors Bournemouth who registered a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Therefore, Amorim was naturally interrogated about the future of the international, and whether he could return to the squad for the Boxing Day clash against Wolves.

Nevertheless, the 39-year-old didn’t want to dwell too much on this particular topic, instead giving away a brief and vague answer.

“It depends, we will see.” said the Red Devils boss in his post-match interview with BBC Match of the Day.

The former Sporting CP tactician also commented on his team’s abysmal display against the Cherries while insisting he was always well aware of the difficulties that accompanied his new job.

“We have to maintain the calm when you suffer a goal. It was similar in the last match. The players need to understand the game has different moments.

“I always expected [job to be tough], especially in these busy months. We are ready to face the challenge.”
