Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes (31) has thrown his full support behind head coach Ruben Amorim, insisting the squad is united with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s vision for long-term stability at Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, Fernandes said the club must resist its habit of crisis-driven decision-making and focus on building under Amorim, who has endured a turbulent start to the season.
Amorim, appointed last November, is yet to win back-to-back league games but received a strong vote of confidence from Ratcliffe earlier this month. The Portuguese coach’s position has been under scrutiny following erratic performances, yet Fernandes insists the players share the owner’s faith.
“I think the club needs stability,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “That’s the message Sir Jim wants to pass through everyone. Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture, and as a group of players we believe the manager can help this club get back where it belongs.“
United’s win over Sunderland before the international break offered brief respite, but Fernandes acknowledged the pressure that comes with managing the club.
“Any manager that comes here is one game away from a crisis,” he said. “That’s just Manchester United. Win, and people think you’ll win the league. Lose, and it feels like a storm is coming. We know how big this club is. The pressure will always be there, but the manager is prepared for that, and so are we.”
