It has been over three months since Manchester United and Ruben Amorim parted ways.
The Portuguese coach took charge of his final match for Manchester United in a 1-1 draw at Elland Road against Leeds United at the very start of January.
After the match, he held a fiery post-match press conference in which he implied there had been problems behind the scenes between himself and sporting director Jason Wilcox.
It has also been revealed since then that the two disagreed on United’s use of the 3-5-2 formation under Amorim, as well as the club’s refusal to spend in the January transfer window.
When Amorim left the club, the Red Devils were sixth in the league, three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
Fast forward a few months under Michael Carrick and they now find themselves in third, with a seven-point cushion ahead of Chelsea in the fight for Champions League places.
Carrick has won seven matches out of 11, drawing two and losing two more, in a successful interim spell.
Since departing his position, Amorim has remained quiet and has not made any public comment on his sacking from the club.
The BBC reports that, “it has been notable how Ruben Amorim has virtually disappeared off the radar since his dismissal by Manchester United in January.”
In fact, his only public appearances have been watching tennis player Carlos Alcaraz at the Qatar Open in February and being pictured at a Padel Expo in Lisbon last month with Manchester City sporting director Hugo Viana.
They add that, “the former Sporting boss did not post a message on social media following his dismissal, and sources close to the 41-year-old say he has no plans to speak to the media any time soon.”
Amorim has been linked with a return to Portuguese football, with some reports suggesting he might replace Jose Mourinho at his former club, SL Benfica.
