Manchester United could be adding Ruben Neves to their midfield ranks in January should a key recent update prove accurate.
Man United appear to be in dire need of additional midfielders, with their options appearing to wane.
While Casemiro appears not to be in talks for a return to Brazil on a free transfer, it’s important to remember that he is ageing, now entering the twilight of his career.
Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo seemed to be on the brink of leaving United on loan in the summer, given the lack of minutes he received at the start of the season.
Although Manuel Ugarte is another option, he has never exhibited particularly strong form since arriving at Old Trafford.
Clearly, United need to look outside of their ranks in order to build an elite midfield lineup.
A new target emerges
Earlier this month, The Peoples Person relayed that United appear to have taken an interest in Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves.
A former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, Neves knows what it’s like to play in the Premier League. It appears that United may be able to take advantage of his knowledge, given recent developments.
Negotiations commence
United have already learned that Neves appears to be available for a price tag of £17 million.
Still, there’s even more evidence to suggest that United are in the running to sign the Portuguese star.
“TBR Football can confirm that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were all spoken to in the summer about Neves, and they are again being kept informed,” TBR Football reported this evening.
“Whilst other clubs have also been spoken to, sources confirm that these three clubs are seen as potential landing spots. And it now remains to be seen whether Al-Hilal will look to move Neves on in January in order to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer, when his contract expires.”
With Neves expected to be available to a move in January, he could prove to be a near-term solution for United’s midfield struggles.
What’s more, he is available for a reasonable price, meaning that he could be quite a financially appealing signing once the next transfer window opens.
