AC Milan have launched a sweeping reset, confirming the exit of head coach Massimiliano Allegri and senior figures, a move that could clear the way for Marco Silva and leave Benfica trailing.

The club said in a statement that Allegri had been relieved of his duties, with CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada also departing. Owner Gerry Cardinale will take charge until successors are appointed.

After last season’s disappointment, the club’s stated target had been a return to the Champions League and building foundations to compete at the top of Serie A. A strong position for much of the campaign was undone by an inconsistent run-in, turning the season into a clear failure.

Within that reset, Marco Silva is on Milan’s list. The Fulham manager, also courted by Benfica, has a renewal offer on the table and has yet to decide.

Antonio Conte is another option under consideration.
