Liverpool are not interested in signing Nico Schlotterbeck, per Florian Plettenberg. Rumours that the Reds are keen on his services are reportedly wide of the mark.

Liverpool are in the market for defenders, with young centre-back Giovanni Leoni picking up an ACL that will rule him out for months, thinning the backline.

The Reds are also wary of Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his contract at Anfield and so far refusing every one of the club’s offers.

The Merseyside club must also keep in mind that Virgil Van Dijk is not getting any younger and could use a successor, hence the interest in signing new defenders.

And Schlotterbeck, who has been praised for the way he ‘throws himself into duels’, fits the bill for what the club needs.

The Borussia Dortmund defender is a force of nature. Tall, aggressive, and front-footed, he has all the qualities to thrive in the Premier League.

Since returning from his long-term injury, he has reclaimed his place in the BVB starting line-up.

The 6ft3ins centre-half has helped the club keep two clean sheets in three league games, winning 71% of his aerial duels.

His ability on the ball is also impeccable and has attracted several European giants. However, Liverpool are not in the running to sign him.

Dortmund are keen to keep him and are optimistic about the situation, leaving Liverpool to turn to other targets in the transfer market.

One player Liverpool should consider is Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, who could be available this summer.

The Frenchman is also entering the final year of his contract, meaning Liverpool could land him for free next summer.

Strong, composed, and vocal, Upamecano has matured into a defensive leader at Bayern and would bring both experience and stability to Liverpool’s back line.

Upamecano represents a brilliant, low-cost opportunity to strengthen Liverpool’s back four with a proven performer who’s still in his prime.
