Speaking after their 2-0 win over Werder Bremen to end the campaign on a high, Julian Ryerson was largely happy with Borussia Dortmund's efforts over the last eight months.
“In terms of points, it was a good season for us in the Bundesliga – 73 points is a decent tally. Unfortunately, the gap is a bit too big, but we can build on that,” Ryerson said after the game.
We’ve got ten days off now, so we can recover a bit – and it’s also very important for our mental state. And then I’ll be looking forward to the World Cup even more," he continued.
The full-back's defensive partner, Waldemar Anton, shared a similar sentiment. The German labelled it “a very, very good season” for the Westphalians on the domestic front.
“We were in the mix for long stretches and achieved the goal that was still possible: finishing second. That’s the main thing,” Anton explained to Sky Germany.
Nevertheless, we had completely different goals, but we didn't manage to finish first. But Bayern have had an outstanding season; we mustn’t forget that. Congratulations to Bayern," he added.
