AC Milan and Inter are currently working together to buy the San Siro, and it seems they are in a strong position.
There have been countless reports about the current situation with the purchasing of San Siro, and unfortunately, when there has been good news, bad news has often followed. However, today we have seen the opposite follow.
At the weekend, there were suggestions that Oaktree and RedBird (the ownership groups of both Milanese clubs) were ‘seeing ghosts’ regarding the project – due to the time spent trying to finalise an agreement.
However, it seems they have no reason to fear, with Beppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, admitting they are in a good spot, via Calciomercato.com.
Forward with Inter and Milan…
“As expected, in the event that there were no other offers, and there were no other offers, we will continue with the teams in technical and also economic-financial discussions.”
More Stories about San Siro
Reclamation and demolition…
“We have some issues to sort out, the main one is related to the reclamation. It is already clear with the teams that if they proceed with a renovation of San Siro they will pay for it. As for the reclamation, as is usual when you sell and not enough core drilling has been done, we need to understand.”
Problems…
“I don’t think there will be big problems, it’s not an area that has been the subject of polluting industrial activities, it will also depend on the project and how much earth will be moved. We need to check.
“Has the cost of demolition been quantified? I don’t know, it’s their problem and I have no idea. We were clear about this with the teams, it will be their responsibility.”
The no committees…
“The Yes Meazza Committee is trying every way to block this initiative but I’m going ahead on my own path, let them do what they think they should do. From our point of view we have opinions ranging from the legal to the superintendency and therefore we are sure of what we are doing.”
Negative opinions on the demolition...
“The words of director Ken Loach? Everyone has their own opinion but the point is to think in terms of alternatives. The teams want a stadium, teammate Ken Loach does not live in Milan and does not know what it would mean to go to the stadium in San Donato, which I do not think is an option that the fans will appreciate.”
There is a lot left to do it seems, but this is a big step in the right direction, and lessening the pressure on the deadline suggests that assurances have been given to the council. Maybe we are nearing an end.
