Mohamed Salah has climbed to fourth among Liverpool’s leading scorers after netting twice in the club’s thrilling win at Tottenham Hotspur.
Salah scored twice as Liverpool won 6-3 in North London to ensure top spot in the Premier League on Christmas Day. The Egyptian international was the architect of a big win for Arne Slot’s side, also adding two assists.
He has become the first player in Premier League history to reach 10+ goals and 10+ assists in a season before Christmas.
Salah is also celebrating another milestone after overtaking Billy Liddell for Liverpool goals. The latter, whose impact on the Reds saw the club nicknamed “Liddellpool” during his playing days, is regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
Next in Salah’s sights is Gordon Hodgson (241), who sits behind only Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346) for Liverpool goals.
“It’s great to achieve that at such a big club, but the most important thing is that we won the game,” Salah reflected to Sky Sports.
“Wherever I am going to end my career I am happy about it.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was gushing in his praise of the Egyptian at full-time. He said Salah is in the ‘top five players’ to have played for the Reds.
“Unbelievable. He is a phenomenon,” Carragher said.
“He is probably in the top five players to have ever played for Liverpool football club.
“Let’s not forget, they’re the most successful team in this country and they’ve had some legendary players.”
