With the new season looming and European qualifiers already under way for Benfica and Ajax, a cluster of marquee names remain unattached as of 25 July. Stars, value picks and Ligue 1 regulars are all on the board.

According to L'Équipe, Dusan Vlahovic is the standout forward after leaving Juventus with 68 goals in 168 games, his next move still unclear. Mohamed Salah, 34, is also a free agent after his long Liverpool stint. He has not revealed his destination.

Jadon Sancho and John Stones are likewise without clubs after testing seasons. Sancho scored one in 29 for Aston Villa on loan, while injuries curtailed Stones’ impact at Manchester City, yet at 26 and 32 they remain high calibre.

David Alaba, 34, seeks a fresh challenge after five seasons at Real Madrid. The Austrian has won the Champions League four times, fitness permitting he offers elite know-how.

Midfield options include Fabinho, 32, who returned to Brazil duty at the World Cup and played 111 matches in three seasons with Al-Ittihad. Leon Goretzka, 31, departs Bayern Munich after eight years and would bolster most midfields.

Krépin Diatta exits Monaco after five seasons, a 43-game ever-present in 2022-2023 then a rotation piece with more than 20 outings per year. Bamba Dieng, 26, closed strongly after spells at Marseille, Lorient and Angers. Also available are Yves Bissouma, Nabil Bentaleb, Nabil Fekir, who struck 9 league goals for Al-Jazira last term, and Raphaël Guerreiro after 89 Bayern appearances.
