Barcelona are edging closer to offloading Ansu Fati on a permanent basis, but one significant obstacle continues to stand in the way of completing the deal.

According to SPORT, Monaco remain fully committed to signing the Spanish forward after his loan spell, and the French club have every intention of activating the purchase option included in the agreement.

However, despite both clubs largely being on the same page, negotiations have become complicated due to the player’s salary demands.

With Barcelona eager to conclude the operation as soon as possible, all eyes are now on whether a compromise can be reached before the situation drags on further.

Salary issue remains unresolved

Monaco have decided to activate the €11 million purchase clause agreed with Barcelona, while the deal also includes a percentage of any future sale.

The French side see value in keeping the attacker and are prepared to move forward with the permanent transfer. But that is not what is hindering the process.

It is said that Ansu Fati earned a gross salary of €12 million last season, but that figure is set to increase to €14 million in the upcoming campaign under the terms of his Barcelona contract.

That wage package is currently beyond what Monaco are willing or able to offer.

As a result, the Ligue 1 side are pushing for the player to lower his salary expectations. The Spaniard, however, wants to maintain the financial conditions he currently enjoys.

Until that disagreement is resolved, the transfer cannot be officially completed.

As reported before, the Catalan club are keen to finalise the transfer as quickly as possible because the income generated from the sale would provide an important financial boost.

Recording the transfer fee within the current financial period would help Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to improve their economic position ahead of another crucial season.

If negotiations continue to stall, alternative solutions may need to be explored.

One possibility could involve Monaco requesting a reduction in the transfer fee to offset part of the player’s wages, and another scenario could see Barcelona helping facilitate the move financially in order to ensure the operation goes through.

At this stage, all parties still expect Ansu’s future to be away from Camp Nou, but the final details remain unresolved.
