Samir Nasri is reportedly in the frame to join Jorge Sampaoli’s backroom staff at Rennes as the Argentine’s deputy coach, according to Mohamed Toubache. The former Chile and Argentina head coach has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with the Ligue 1 club to replace Julien Stéphan whose dismissal has been made official this Thursday. Rennes have lost half of their ten Ligue 1 games this season. Stéphan’s nadir occurred last Sunday with Les Rouge et Noir humbled 4-0 at Auxerre.
Nasri and Sampaoli have already worked together. The former Arsenal attacking midfielder featured for Sampaoli’s Sevilla during the 2016-2017 season whilst on loan from Manchester City. The Marseille Academy graduate currently works as a pundit for Canal+, France’s official broadcaster of the Champions League and the Premier League. Rennes host Toulouse this Sunday at the Roazhon Park. The reserves’ coach, Sébastien Tambouret, is expected to sit in the dugout before Sampaoli’s appointment.
