Szmodics moved to Rovers from Peterborough United in the summer of 2022, and sprung into life last season at Ewood Park as he finished the season as the Championship's top scorer with 27 goals in 44 league appearances across the campaign.

As a result, he was named as Blackburn's Supporters' and Players' Player of the Year, and also earned a place in the Championship Team of the Season and the PFA Team of the Year, as the newly-promoted Tractor Boys then moved to sign him in August for an initial £9m on a four-year contract to aid their first Premier League campaign since 2001/02.

The 28-year-old was a big loss to John Eustace's side, but his departure seemed inevitable after his standout form, and they do not seem to be missing him so far this season with three wins and two draws in their first five league games seeing them into third place in the second-tier.

He has had a mixed start to life at Portman Road, with one goal in four top-flight appearances that have seen Town pick up just two points so far, and he will be hoping to kick on and bag some more throughout the campaign as Kieran McKenna's side aim to stave off the relegation zone.

With the help of Capology, Football League World has decided to take a look at his estimated weekly wage at Ipswich, and how that compares to what he was earning at Blackburn.

It must be taken into consideration that the data provided by Capology are estimations and not official figures.

According to Capology's estimates, Szmodics is the joint-fifth highest earner at Ipswich of all their permanent players, which makes sense considering he arrived as the club's sixth-most expensive signing last month, behind five of his current teammates.

They claim that Szmodics earns £25,000-per-week at Ipswich, which puts him on par with his Republic of Ireland teammates Chiedozie Ogbene and Dara O'Shea, as well as Arijanet Muric, Jack Clarke and Jacob Greaves.

The 28-year-old's weekly wage means he will earn an estimated £1.3 million in a year while with the Tractor Boys, which equates to £5.2m across his four-year contract, provided he sees those years out.

Sammie Szmodics' Ipswich earnings compared to his previous clubs

Szmodics will be pleased that his form at Blackburn earned him a move to the Premier League, mainly due to the better standard and chance to prove himself in the top-flight, but also due to the increase in wages that it will see him pocket when compared to his weekly earnings at previous clubs.

He started out at Colchester United and impressed in League One and Two before getting a move to Championship side Bristol City in 2019 where, according to Capology, he earned £5,000 p/w while he struggled for form at Ashton Gate and went out on loan to Peterborough United in the January window.

Szmodics then made his move to the Posh permanent in 2020, and Capology state that he saw his weekly wages slightly decrease to an estimated £4,800 p/w as he dropped back into the third tier.

The forward then shone in League One as Peterborough won promotion to the Championship, and he spent a year in the second-tier before he was signed by Blackburn for £1.8m on an initial three-year deal that Capology believe saw him pick up £14,230 p/w, a huge increase on his previous weekly earnings.

Szmodics then signed an extension to his existing Rovers deal in November of last year following his electric start to the last campaign, which saw his weekly earnings increase slightly to £15,000 p/w, according to Capology.

He did not see out that new deal, which saw him contracted to the Ewood Park club until 2026, but will be happy with his current earnings at Portman Road when compared to those previous clubs, and it is testament to his brilliant performances in recent years that he has seen such a sharp increase in a short space of time.
