Real Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey last 16 on Wednesday, losing 2-3 at Albacete of the second tier.

According to L'Équipe, the following day San Marino posted a humorous message on X inviting Madrid to play, saying the teams could be on a similar level.

The result left Alvaro Arbeloa’s reign starting badly and drew sharp criticism in Spain.

San Marino are ranked 210th by FIFA and have only two wins, over Liechtenstein in 2004 and 2024, both 1-0.

Their post referenced Madrid’s defeat to a second-tier side and their own frequent fiascos, before suggesting they would face them whenever they wished.
