Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Sandro Tonali in the next few days.

However, the Daily Mail claims that the Newcastle United star is more interested in joining Arsenal this summer, despite a significant bid from Tottenham.

Tottenham have already tested the waters with a £75 million offer. But it was quickly turned down by the Magpies, who are believed to be holding out for a fee closer to £100m.

Tonali only has two years left on his contract at St James’ Park, and Newcastle have already made peace with the fact that he will likely leave the club this summer.

While they’ve already started scouring the market for a replacement, the Magpies are still looking to squeeze every penny they can from interested clubs before giving the green light.

Tottenham are in the middle of a squad rebuild, with new manager Roberto De Zerbi looking to imprint his tactical identity on the team.

The Italian has been given significant power in the transfer market, with Spurs trying a different approach after back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League.

They’re showing plenty of ambition in the market, with Tottenham determined to build a team that can get them back to the upper echelons of the Premier League.

Tonali is the kind of marquee signing that could get the fans off their seat and send a message to the rest of the league about Tottenham’s ambitions.

But any deal for the ‘excellent‘ Italian midfielder will be far from straightforward.

Fortunately for Tottenham, Tonali hasn’t shut the door on a potential move to them. But he could be heading elsewhere if Arsenal formalise their interest.

The Gunners seem to have other priorities, paving the way for Tottenham to agree a deal with Newcastle. But they must find common ground with the Magpies to get a deal over the line.
