Santos and midfielder Tomás Rincón have agreed an amicable termination of his contract. Globo.com reports that the 38-year-old’s deal had been due to run until the end of this year.
He was not in coach Cuca’s plans for the remainder of the campaign and had been allowed to find a new club. Rincón made only three appearances in 2026.
He joined Santos in the second half of 2023 and went on to play 78 official matches, contributing one assist.
Rincón assumed a leadership role in the squad and, following relegation to Série B, was among the first to accept a salary reduction to stay.
In August last year he signed a new deal that included progressive pay, reflecting the agreement to reduce his wages during the Série B campaign.
By March the board had indicated they would ease his departure if an offer emerged, as he was featuring less. After Cuca arrived, Rincón earned a brief reprieve following talks, with the coach saying at a press conference that he liked the veteran’s attitude and would assess his situation.
He later appeared against Cruzeiro and Bahia in the Brasileirão, otherwise remaining on the bench without playing time.
Rincón also missed the Copa Sudamericana opener against Deportivo Cuenca of Ecuador because he did not have a visa. Ecuador has required visas for Venezuelan citizens since 2019, and the application needed to be lodged 60 days in advance, which the timing of the draw did not allow.
