According to Globo.com, Santos began pitch maintenance at Vila Belmiro this week, with work scheduled through June and July during the World Cup pause.
The programme follows an agronomic plan and starts with replanting in high-wear areas, notably the goalmouths and players’ warm-up zones.
Overseeding then begins to keep turf density as temperatures drop in winter. A cool-season grass is sown over the existing base to add cushioning for players.
Finally, topdressing levels the surface, with a sand layer applied to promote uniform growth and a truer roll.
The aim is to return the surface in the best possible condition for the players. The winter plan includes technical indicators and performance targets, checked every 15 days by the maintenance team.
Santos are due back at CT Rei Pelé on Monday. The club await a CBF decision on bringing forward Campeonato Brasileiro fixtures because of the Copa Sul-Americana.
Their next home match is against Chapecoense on 25 July, in the 20th round of the Brasileirão.
