Santos hand Neymar and travelling squad a day off after Venezuela delays | OneFootball

Santos gave the squad Wednesday off after logistical problems on their return from Venezuela. Neymar, who did not travel for the UCV tie in the Sudamericana, also had the day free following the 4-1 win.

According to Globo.com, the group had been due to arrive in the morning for a recovery session at CT Rei Pelé, but a delayed departure from Valencia prompted the rest day. Players, coaching staff and directors reached Brazil late in the morning, roughly two hours later than scheduled to be at the training base.

Only those in rehab or transition, such as João Schmidt and Gabigol, reported to the facility and followed their normal programme.

Neymar has been training with the ball and will return to the team on Saturday at 18:30 Brasília time against Chapecoense at Vila Belmiro in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Alongside the number 10, the coaching staff expect to have Gabigol, who has yet to play since the season resumed. The striker was suspended against Botafogo and was left out of the trip for the Sudamericana match.

The squad reconvenes on Thursday morning, when Cuca will begin preparations for the weekend fixture.
