According to Diario Do Peixe, Gabriel Brazão, the first-choice goalkeeper, is expected to be sold as Santos seek funds. The club considered resting him against Cuenca in the Sul-Americana and Vitória in the Brasileirão before the World Cup break, then backtracked, so he could be playing a farewell.
Santos have brought goalkeeping coach Arzul back, and he trusts Diógenes, Rodrigo Falcão and João Pedro from the under-20s to cover Brazão. The keeper, who lost his father a month ago, would like to stay but accepts a sale could help the club financially.
Arzul also has faith in João Paulo and backs his return. João Paulo was loaned to Bahia in August last year until mid this year with an obligation to buy, and he posted a farewell to Santos and colleagues at CT Rei Pelé. He has not convinced at Bahia, who asked to extend the loan to the end of the year, a request the board rejected.
João Paulo also held talks with Botafogo and Corinthians. The board do not plan to negotiate with Botafogo because of sums owed to Santos, and the goalkeeper was not interested in Corinthians out of respect for his history at the club. Without agreement in Salvador, he may yet come back to the Alvinegro.
Santos have already renewed Diógenes and Rodrigo Falcão this year. Diógenes’ deal, due to end in December, now runs to 2028, and Rodrigo Falcão’s, previously up in October, lasts until January 2029. Under-20 keeper João Pedro, a regular in youth national squads, is close to extending, with paperwork in the legal department.
