Santos ‘to keep’ JP Chermont on Coritiba loan despite need at right-back | OneFootball

Santos are expected to keep JP Chermont on loan at Coritiba until the end of the year, despite needing a right-back.

According to Diario Do Peixe, Chermont joined Coritiba in late February on a loan to December, and despite a recall clause he is likely to stay. Football chief Alexandre Mattos is said to have asked whether the player wanted to return, which irritated his camp, who want clarity and a proper plan.

He has 11 appearances for the Coxa, all in the Brasileiro.

Before the loan, København and Ajax proposed loans with an option to buy for three million euros, which Santos refused, and Ajax later bid four million euros to buy outright. President Marcelo Teixeira is said to have told representatives only a higher offer would be accepted.

Under former coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda he had little room. He scored one goal and one assist in five Copinha games, but did not play for the seniors despite being listed for three matches, against Bragantino and Noroeste in the Paulistão and Chapecoense in the Brasileiro.

Vojvoda told him he was behind Igor Vinicius and Mayke and must wait. Igor Vinicius is now first choice, though near his physical limit before the pause, and Mayke is out of Santos’ plans. Gabriel Menino and Gustavo Henrique can also cover at right-back.

Chermont is under contract until the end of 2027. He was promoted in 2024 and has two goals, five assists and 50 first-team games for Santos.
