Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has reportedly made up his mind regarding his squad selection ahead of the Serie A opener against Como.

The Background

The Biancocelesti will begin their campaign with an away meeting against Cesc Fabregas’ men. But while Sarri still has some dilemmas to resolve in his starting lineup, he already has a clear idea of which players he’ll omit from the squad.

Samuel Gigot Out of Lazio Project

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Samuel Gigot will be left in Rome. The French defender has been dealing with back problems for several weeks, but more importantly, he’s considered surplus to requirements after falling down the manager’s pecking order. The former Marseille star is now behind Alessio Romagnoli, Mario Gila, Oliver Provstgaard and Patric in the hierarchy.

Gustav Isaksen To Be Excluded Against Como

In addition to Gigot, Sarri has decided to drop Gustav Isaksen from the list. The Dane’s pre-season has been wrecked by an infectious mononucleosis. Therefore, the winger is still working on regaining his best physical condition, having only recently returned to training.

Toma Basic Will Be Included for Now

The 24-year-old will be hoping to regain his spot in the squad next week for the home fixture against Hellas Verona, which would likely come at Toma Basic’s expense. Nevertheless, Sarri is keen to keep the Croatian midfielder at the club, as he might have a role to play in December when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and potentially Reda Belhayane head to the African Cup of Nations.

When Can Lazio Change Their Serie A Squad?

The clubs are allowed to make an unlimited number of changes to the Serie A list while the market is open. But once it is closed, coaches will have to settle on their choices until January, although the rules permit a limited number of changes in case of long-term injuries or absences.
