New Arsenal signing Viktor Gyökeres began the game on the bench as just under 50,000 watched the North London derby played in Hong Kong.
It was the Gunners who started the brightest but Tottenham Hotspur twice hit the post midway through the half with Wilson Odobert's effort bouncing clear before a corner found Richarlison at the far post but the Brazilian somehow missed his chance from a yard out.
Spurs did take the lead just before half-time when Arsenal lost the ball in midfield with David Raya off his line. Pape Sarr took advantage and superbly lofted the ball over Raya and into the net from just inside the Arsenal half.
Both teams had chances in the second half with Gabriel Martinelli firing over while Micky van de Ven flashed a header wide that really should have made it 2-0.
Mikel Arteta eventually threw Gyökeres on in the 77th minute alongside another debutant, defender Cristhian Mosquera.
There wasn't enough time for the Swedish striker to make an impact though as Thomas Frank's side held out against their rivals.
