Bundesliga club SC Freiburg are pushing to sign Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto this summer, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Leeds are open to selling the Italian and the 22-year-old could push to leave the Elland Road club as he is not a starter under Whites manager Daniel Farke.

Freiburg are already in talks with the representatives of the ‘devastating’ Gnonto, but getting a deal done is currently proving tricky.

A loan deal with an obligation to buy could also be struck for the Italian international.

The winger played 27 games across all competitions for Leeds this term, but he started just seven times, scoring once and weighing in with two assists.

Gnonto is likely to keep struggling to break into the Whites starting XI and moving elsewhere could appeal to him as long as regular playing opportunities are guaranteed.

The Inter Milan academy graduate has 13 caps for Italy but has not played for the Azzurri since 2023 and has had to settle for playing for their under-21s in recent months.

The Leeds star was desperate to leave the Whites during the 2023 summer transfer window following their relegation to the Championship at the end of his debut season.

However, a move to Everton fell through as the west Yorkshire club refused to grant his transfer request.

He was reinstated to the team after he was initially dropped due to disciplinary measures and could now be open to leaving again.

Gnonto is no longer as important as he once was for Leeds following some key recruitment last summer, and more quality additions could be on the cards ahead of next season.

Farke wants to strengthen his squad after a relegation battle for most of the season and the Italian could find himself further down the pecking order next term if he remains at Elland Road beyond this summer.
