Schalke are facing the threat of a three-point deduction before the new Bundesliga season, according to Kicker.

The potential sanction relates to negative equity. The club is also pushing for a fairer distribution of TV rights money.

As it stands, Schalke are the only Bundesliga side with negative equity, estimated at around €100 million.

Under the league’s equity capital requirements, this position could lead to a three-point penalty.

To address their finances, Schalke are relying on a cooperative scheme in which members buy shares.

Of a €50 million target, the Royal Blues have raised only €eight million so far, contributed by 9,000 share investors.
