If one looks at stats, Manchester United made a huge mistake by selling Scott McTominay to Napoli last year.

Yes, the Carrington graduate looked like he did not possess the quality to start every week for a club of United’s stature, but that was mainly because he was misprofiled as a deep-lying playmaker.

Since joining the Serie A side, Antonio Conte has used him as an attacking midfielder with the freedom to barge into the box, and safe to say, he has proven to be a revelation.

The 28-year-old scored 13 goals while registering six assists as Napoli clinched the Serie A title. Not only that but the Scottish star’s form saw him win the Serie A MVP award while he finished 18th in the Ballon d’Or standings.

Astronomical fee needed to land Scott McTominay

There is no stopping the Scotland international, who already has four goals to his name this season as well as an assist. And he has been in red-hot form for his national team as well.

Naturally, that has meant a lot of teams have been sniffing around, including his former club. As per Teamtalk, Napoli will only consider “astronomical” fees for let go of their talisman.

With the Scotland international’s current deal valid until 2028, Napoli hold all the aces and are in no hurry to sell even though the midfielder would love to return to the Premier League.

Everton have been linked with a stunning approach, and whoever does eventually sign the midfielder, United will be due 10% of the fee as they had included a sell-on clause as part of the agreement with Napoli.
