Sean Dyche’s position at Nottingham Forest is in serious doubt after owner Evangelos Marinakis made a midweek visit to the City Ground and watched his side fail to beat bottom club Wolves.
Telegraph reports that Forest are weighing a third managerial change of the season, with the team booed off at half-time and full-time and suggestions the owner met senior players afterwards. Forest have two wins in their past 10 league games and remain deep in relegation trouble.
Forest produced 35 shots, the most by a Dyche side in the Premier League, yet could not score. Wolves, with only one league goal in over seven hours, frustrated them.
The worst first-half miss fell to loan signing Lorenzo Lucca, who lifted Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross over from six yards. His display sharpened scrutiny of recruitment, including the role of global head of football Edu Gaspar.
In the 69th minute Omari Hutchinson hit a corner into the side netting, drawing fury from the home end. On 77 minutes José Sá kept Morato’s effort from crossing the line, then in added time Mateus Mané shot straight at Stefan Ortega as Wolves almost pinched it. The boos at the end spoke volumes.
Dyche said any change is for the owner and the fans, calling that the reality of the game, and stressed Marinakis has been fair while he has been honest and hard-working. Forest are not back in action until next Thursday’s Europa League play-off first leg away at Fenerbahce.
