It has not yet been confirmed, but the signs are positive for Paul Pogba (32) to make his AS Monaco debut this weekend and end a 26-month-long hiatus.

Pogba joined Monaco back in June but has yet to play. Upon his arrival, a three-month programme was devised to bring the former Manchester United and Juventus back to full fitness. It was not a small undertaking, given that he has not played since September 2023 and that for much of the time that has elapsed since, he has been attempting to maintain his fitness outside of a professional context.

A return was anticipated earlier this month against Paris FC, however, Pogba suffered an ankle sprain two days before that encounter, delaying his return. But he could now finally set foot on a pitch, against Stade Rennais on Saturday.

Sébastien Pocognoli evoked La Pioche’s return in a press conference attended by Get French Football News. We have a session today so we’ll see. If it goes well, he can be there. He has had a run of sessions, and the feedback is positive. He has been able to test himself in match conditions. There are good signs,” said the Monaco manager.

Pogba will train with his teammates on Friday afternoon and it now looks likely that the Frenchman will at least be part of the group that travels to Rennes.
