Sergio Ramos wants to sign Barcelona wonderkid after Sevilla takeover – report | OneFootball

According to fresh information emerging from Mundo Deportivo, former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has identified Barcelona forward Toni Fernandez as a player he would like to bring to Sevilla as part of a new sporting project.

The situation comes amid growing reports that Ramos is close to finalising a takeover operation involving Sevilla. 

If the move is completed, which is very much expected, the former Real Madrid defender will become heavily involved in rebuilding the sporting structure of the Andalusian club.

In that context, one of the names appearing on Sevilla’s radar is Toni Fernandez, who continues to be viewed as one of the brightest attacking talents emerging from Barcelona’s academy system.

Time to take the big step

At Barça, there is already a feeling that the young forward has outgrown the reserve team level.

The Segunda Federación is no longer considered the ideal environment for his development, especially after another promising campaign with Barça Atlètic.

The 17-year-old finished the season with 24 appearances for the reserve side while also managing to make his first-team debut. 

Across those matches, he scored five goals and continued attracting attention because of his technical quality and attacking intelligence.

Despite the obvious talent, the pathway into the first team currently appears complicated, as competition for places is very severe under Hansi Flick, especially in attack.

Sevilla preparing a move

If Sergio Ramos completes the takeover process at Sevilla, the club’s sporting department is expected to convince Toni Fernandez to join the project.

Reports suggest that Marc Boixasa, who would oversee sporting operations under the new structure, could play a key role in negotiations with the player and his entourage.

Meanwhile, Barcelona remain protected contractually because Fernandez is tied to the club until 2027. 

However, there is still an important discussion to be had regarding what the next step in his career should look like.

In that regard, the possibility of a loan, permanent transfer or promotion closer to the first team are all understood to be under consideration.
