Last night at midnight, the Serhou Guirassy's release clause with Borussia Dortmund expired, giving the club total control of his future.

However, BVB didn't have too much to worry about, as the clause set at just under €40million, could only be activated by top clubs.

That list included the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, Manchester United and Arsenal.

None of the clubs contractually obligated to sign him by activating the buyout clause showed much interest in the 30-year-old.

This was in stark contrast to Fenerbahce, who would roll out the red carpet for the Guinean in Istanbul, which the striker eventually declined.

Still, a departure of the striker is far from being completely off the table, but the transfer fee is now freely negotiable for all clubs.
