Serie A forward prioritises free transfer move to Barcelona in the summer – report | OneFootball

At this point, it is well-established that FC Barcelona are set to enter the market for a new centre-forward in the summer transfer window.

Robert Lewandowski is in the final few months of his contract with the Catalan heavyweights and, as things stand, a renewal appears unlikely.

Barcelona have identified several potential targets as replacements for the veteran Poland captain. Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid tops the wishlist, while Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic also features on it.

Vlahovic prioritising Barcelona move

Now, according to Tuttosport (h/t SPORT), Vlahovic is prioritising a transfer to Barcelona as a free agent when his contract at Juventus expires at the end of the season.

Indeed, the Serbian international has instructed his representatives to keep Barça as the main objective. He is waiting for a move from the Catalan club, hoping to become the long-term successor to Lewandowski.

If Barcelona do not step forward, however, he would be open to negotiating a renewal with Juventus, even on reduced terms, despite potential offers from the Premier League.

Not a priority for Barcelona

Vlahovic’s name has been discussed internally at Barcelona since the start of the season. He was offered to the club, and preliminary financial scenarios were explored in case he became the chosen striker.

So far, though, there has been no concrete move, as he is not the Blaugrana’s preferred option.

Barcelona’s sporting department is looking for a slightly different profile if Lewandowski leaves. The idea is to sign a forward with more mobility, someone who links play well and can press with intensity. And the preferred target is Julian Alvarez, although that deal would be complex.

Vlahovic is currently working his way back after an adductor injury that has sidelined him since November. He is close to returning and eager to show he can still perform at the highest level.

As for a move to Barça in the summer, only time will tell if he gets his wish or not.
