The Nerazzurri completed the domestic Double on Wednesday by beating Lazio 2-0 in the Coppa Italia Final, and were presented with the Serie A trophy at the final whistle here, going off on an open-top bus parade through the streets of Milan. Hakan Calhanoglu was still carrying an injury, while relegated Hellas Verona missed Gift Orban, Daniel Mosquera, Suat Serdar and Daniel Oyegoke.

There was a tribute before kick-off to Inter legend Evaristo Beccalossi, who died earlier this month.

Yann Sommer was forced into a tricky save when the Kieron Bowie effort was deflected from point-blank range, while Henrikh Mkhitayran’s strike looped wide of the far top corner.

Lautaro Martinez ran onto a Mkhitaryan through ball only for his finish to be deflected over by Nicolas Valentini, but Mkhitaryan should’ve scored when sent through by Andy Diouf on the counter-attack, only to fire straight at Lorenzo Montipò.

Following a chaotic move at the dawn of the second half that saw Andrias Edmundsson put the Mkhitaryan header out for a corner, Inter finally broke through.

Although Ange-Yoan Bonny’s header glanced the resulting corner, the ball went in off Edmundsson’s chest for a Verona own goal.

Lautaro Martinez thought he had added another goal to his Capocannoniere tally, but the angled drive was pushed wide by Montipò’s outstretched boot.

There was a double opportunity when Edmundsson charged down a Mkhitaryan counter-attack, then combined with his goalkeeper to clear the Lautaro Martinez follow-up off the line. There were appeals for handball, but Edmundsson’s arm was flush to the body.

Verona also had penalty appeals rejected for a Luis Henrique push in the back as Valentini went for the header.

There were emotional scenes with a standing ovation for Matteo Darmian, who is moving on after nine years at San Siro, with Raffaele Di Gennaro, Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi and Davide Frattesi all expected to leave.

Sommer made one last big save with his gloves stung by an Amine Sarr screamer before allowing Di Gennaro a swansong appearance.

Inter teenager Matteo Mosconi was inches away from his first Serie A goal with an angled drive through a defender’s legs.

Petar Sucic thought he had scored from a deflected Federico Dimarco assist, but Valentini made the decisive goal-line clearance.

Instead, Verona got a goal in stoppages, as Kieron Bowie sprung the offside trap on a ball over the top, shrugged off Carlos Augusto, and placed a precise finish into the far bottom corner with the inside of the left boot.
