Udinese earned a precious away victory and pushed 10-man Parma back towards the danger zone with an inspired Nicolò Zaniolo goal and Keinan Davis penalty.

The Ducali finally ended their six-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory away to Hellas Verona, dragging them away from the drop zone. Zion Suzuki, Abdoulaye Ndiaye, Alessandro Circati and Matija Frigan were out of action, with new signing Vicente Guaita on the bench. The Friulani suffered back to back defeats to Roma and Bologna without finding the net, plus Hassane Kamara missed out with plantar fasciitis.

Nicolò Zaniolo fired over from distance in the opening minutes, then broke the deadlock in style. He controlled a long Nicolò Bertola ball over the top with exquisite skill as young goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi rushed out, then with his back to goal spun round to fire into the empty net from a tricky angle.

Bertola’s pass also sent Piotrowski through to fire off target, then Bertola got back for a crucial block on Patrick Cutrone’s counter-attack from a Mateo Pellegrino back-heel flick.

An overly-heavy Keinan Davis touch ruined a promising Udinese counter-attack, while Arthur Atta scuffed a finish wide and Oumar Solet’s header was palmed over the bar.

Parma made a double change at the break, including the first match of the season for Jacob Ondrejka, who suffered a nasty injury in pre-season. Ondrejka immediately sprinted into the box only to scuff the finish at the goalkeeper, while Davis saw his angled drive smothered at the near post after turning Mariano Troilo.

Moments later, Davis got away from Troilo again and was brought down with an arm around his stomach for a penalty, which was upgraded to a red card following the VAR On-Field Review. Davis converted it himself blasting into the roof of the net.

Parma kept pushing even down to 10 men, as Pellegrino’s angled drive was charged down, but Corvi kept the scoreline down by palming away the Adam Buksa finish after a Zaniolo dummy.

Estevez couldn’t find the target at the back post from a flicked-on Ondrejka cross. Despite the advantage, Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic saw red for dissent in stoppages.
