Francesco Totti would become the oldest footballer to ever play in a Serie A match should he return from retirement, as recently suggested.

The former Roma striker did not rule out the prospect of returning to action more than seven years after playing his last top-tier game with the Giallorossi and officially hanging up his boots, as he claimed that he would be ‘ready in two months’.

Ex-Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is currently the oldest player to have racked up a Serie A appearance, as he played his last game at 44 years, one month, and eight days.

Top 10 oldest players to make Serie A appearances

The six oldest footballers to have ever played a Serie A game are all goalkeepers, as reported by Transfermarkt, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the first outfield player in that list, ranked in seventh position.

It means that Totti would turn into the oldest player to be in action for a Serie A club by far and the only outfield footballer in the top five.
