Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko amid competition from Newcastle United.

United took their spending beyond the £120m mark by signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth £71m, including add-ons.

Considering the club’s financial predicament and the absence of European football, multiple reports suggested that United would push for the sales to free up further funds after Mbeumo’s arrival.

The Red Devils are yet to make any major sale, having only shipped Marcus Rashford out on loan to Barcelona. Yet, they are aggressively pursuing a deal for Sesko in their attempts to beat Newcastle to his signature.

Manchester United optimistic of landing Sesko

According to Absolut Fussball‘s Christopher Michel, INEOS have “green-lit” the operation and United are “very optimistic” that they will win the race for RB Leipzig’s prodigious number nine.

Michel claims the Premier League giants have been in contact with the 22-year-old’s camp “for a long time.”

Newcastle are also keen on signing the Slovenia international but “internally” United “assume a transfer is a possibility.”

The club’s hierarchy recognise that Ruben Amorim’s system is missing a crucial piece up front. As such, they have “given the green light” to a centre-forward arrival.

RB Leipzig need to raise funds

Earlier this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report revealing Leipzig are “seeking a fee of €75million plus add-ons as well as a sell-on percentage for any deal for Sesko.”

A transfer of that magnitude would make Sesko the German outfit’s biggest sale in the attacking department.

Michel adds that Leipzig are in need of raising funds through sales after missing out on European football. Further, the Bundesliga giants have already invested over €90m in signing new players.

As such, there appears to be an opportunity for United to negotiate a favourable deal for Sesko, who is open to moving to Old Trafford.
