Sevilla’s visit to the Santiago Bernabeu ended in a 0-2 defeat against Real Madrid, but the final score was not the main talking point once the match was over.
Instead, refereeing decisions dominated the post-match reaction, with several Sevilla players and staff openly expressing their frustration at what they felt was an uneven night of officiating.
The tension had been building long before the final whistle. Sevilla were reduced to ten men after Marcao was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Jude Bellingham.
Earlier in the evening, Sevilla coach Matias Almeyda had already been sent off at half-time for protesting decisions from the touchline, underlining just how heated the contest had become.
The referee remained at the centre of the storm throughout the game. Three penalties were awarded in favour of Real Madrid, despite VAR reportedly advising that two of those decisions should not stand.
Those calls only increased the sense of injustice felt by the visiting side, who believed key moments went decisively against them.
After the match, Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume spoke openly and emotionally about what he had witnessed on the pitch.
Clearly trying to hold back stronger words, the Frenchman admitted that frustration was close to boiling over. Sharing his thoughts, he said,

“There were some refereeing incidents… I’d better keep quiet because I’m going to say things that are better left unsaid.
“Every year it’s the same, it’s always the same thing in these matches. We come to play our game, but some things are beyond our control.
“There are decisions that I don’t understand… We all saw them today. They were very clear in my opinion.
“I’m happy with what my teammates have done, I think we deserved more,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the clearest moments of protest came when striker Isaac Romero was substituted.
As he left the pitch, cameras captured him directing his frustration at the fourth official.
In that moment, Romero summed up the mood of his teammates, saying, “We can’t get a card for everything. We’re playing football, for God’s sake,” a line that quickly spread across social media.
